Hang Seng Index (HSI) Warrants
The Hang Seng Index (HSI) is Hong Kong's flagship benchmark and the most heavily traded derivative warrant underlying in Asia. Issuers list call and put hsi warrants across a wide range of strikes and maturities, and CBBCs with a mandatory call level.

HSI-linked warrants and CBBCs list against a defined set of expiry months — commonly the current and next few calendar months, plus quarterly cycle months further out — so at any time there are multiple HSI warrants and CBBCs live with different maturities and strikes. As hsi expiry approaches, the near-dated series tends to see falling open interest and faster time decay (see Time Decay & Maturity in the glossary), since fewer trading days remain for the position to move in the money.
How HSI warrants are settled — EAS
HSI warrants and CBBCs settle in cash against the Expiry-day Average Settlement (EAS) price for the Hang Seng Index, not a single closing tick — HKEX derives EAS by averaging index quotations taken at fixed intervals on the expiry morning, which smooths out settlement against a single volatile print. In-the-money warrants pay the holder the cash difference between the EAS level and the strike (adjusted for the entitlement ratio); out-of-the-money warrants expire worthless.
What hsi rollover actually involves
hsi rollover means closing (selling) an expiring HSI warrant or CBBC position and simultaneously opening an equivalent position in a later-dated series, so leveraged exposure to the index continues uninterrupted past the near expiry. Because the new, later-dated warrant has its own strike, premium, and implied volatility, a rollover is not free — it resets time value and can shift effective gearing, so traders typically compare a handful of later-month strikes (via the issuer's live search tools, linked above) rather than automatically rolling into the nearest available series.
FAQ
What does hsi expiry mean for a warrant?
hsi expiry is the maturity date after which an HSI warrant stops trading and is cash-settled based on the index's official settlement level — most HSI warrants list monthly or quarterly expiries.
What is hsi rollover?
hsi rollover refers to closing a position in an expiring HSI warrant and opening an equivalent position in a later-dated warrant, so leveraged exposure to the index continues past the near expiry.
